Paving Restoration

If the effects of time are taking there toll on your exteior hard surfaces such as driveways, patios and walls, DJI Revive offers a restoration service that can restore or renovate existing hard surface areas turning them into pleasant useable spaces. Common problems that occur with these areas are:

Cracked/failing Mortar Joints
Block Paving Sinkage
Loose Paving Slabs
Block Paving Spreading
Ant Infestation

Over time mortar joints can deteriorate, once this process starts it will only get worse. Once cracks start appearing in the mortar joints of paving slabs and brick walls, water can penetrate theses cracks and in the cold winter months freezing moisture in the mortar expands and damages the mortar further. This can eventually lead to large areas of damaged pointing and even slabs to become wobbly and uneven.

Re-pointing your patio or brick work will not only improve the appearance, but it will also help keep it strong and prolong its life for many years.

Once the existing mortar has been removed from the area being re-pointed, the new mortar is then forced deep into the joints of the paving/brick work. It is important when re-pointing that joints are at least 10mm deep to ensure a strong long lasting finish.

The mortar is then struck off using a trowel, jointing iron or other tools depending on the desired look or structural advantages of each individual method of pointing.

The photos below show how, with a profession clean and careful re-pointing, this patio is restored to look as good as new.

It’s hard to believe that this block paved driveway and path in Arnold was only built 3 years before the photographs were taken. Unfortunately this block paved area had been badly constructed and was starting to fall apart. The blocks on the edge of the paths had not been properly concreted into position and had begun to spread and fall away. The boarders of the block paving had not been cut in properly and were unsightly and dangerous.

The first step to repairing this block paving was to make it structurally sound, this was done by concreting the edge blocks into position so that they wont move.

The blocks that are at the edge of the paving were then cut tight up to the boarders, this dramatically improved the look of the block paving, it also makes the paving stronger because there are no large gaps between the blocks, and this means that the block paving cant spread.

If you are experiencing similar problems with your paving we can help fix it for you. The photos below show that even paving that has been very poorly built can look great with the right skills and knowledge.

Ant infestations, waster damage and heavy traffic can cause block paving to sink and become uneven. This is quite a common especially with block paving that is over 2 years old.

If we find any ant infestations when we lift block paving the area is always treated to help prevent future problems.

DJI Revive will lift sunken block paving and re-level the sand that the block paving is bedded on. This technique irons out any dips or humps in block paving.

After this driveway was cleaned, the blocks pavers where lifted and re-levelled to give this block paved driveway in Farnsfield Nottinghamshire a new lease of life.
